Christians Against Poverty (CAP)
CAPs Vision Statement:
‘Freeing people from the miserable grip of UK poverty. Always through the church. Always hope’
We are committed to working with CAP, addressing some of the causes of poverty and debt in our local community.
Poverty is not just about money. It affects relationships, physical and mental health, and can seem like a prison with no escape. CAP is primarily a debt counselling charity founded in 1996 by John Kirkby, who had experienced unmanageable debt for himself, causing the breakdown of his marriage and losing his home.
CAP also tackles some of the causes of debt, through its CAP Job Clubs, Life Skills Courses and the award winning CAP Money Course. We run a Job Club and have already helped many people to gain confidence and to find a job they like.
About our CAP Money Courses
The CAP Money Course is a free short course that makes managing your money simple. It is for anyone, whether money isn’t a problem, or there is a struggle at the end of each month. We are flexible about when we run the course, to suit people who would like to come. Everyone who attends, can sign up to access a simple to use budget worksheet We also run the youth course in schools for Year 9s and above. We run the student course for those going to university, or going into their second or final year, needing to get a better grip on their finances.
