Well we have just got back from a wonderful weekend away with our young adult ministry, Emerge.
This year our theme was The Handiwork of God looking at how we are made in the image of God and how we can live out the lives that God has called us into. It was a wonderful weekend with, great community and lots of laughter. But above all it was wonderful to see people engaging in prayer and worship and connecting with Jesus.
The talks, given Cathy Brearley and myself, built up a picture of our call through six sessions on Grace, Purpose, Rest, Creativity, Fruitfulness and Holiness. Around the sessions we formed prayer triplets to allow people to grow in their prayer life together over the weekend and it was beautiful to see groups of people, many not used to praying, praying together and getting to know one another over the course of the weekend. In addition we had a number of activities including a time of meditation in the Chapel. One other aspect that was well received was that each person received a glass jar on which they put their name. People wrote out encouragements for one another over the course of the weekend – no-one went away without a stuffed jar!
Chris Ruck, accompanied by Charly led the worship brilliantly over the weekend resisting until the last song of the weekend peoples demands for Lighthouse by Rend Collective – met by enormous cheers and energy.
Of course, our weekend was also about community and the facilities – the pool and beautiful walks, time to chat. The highlight for many was the Saturday evening with people coming dressed as Film characters with a quiz led by Russell and Shep followed by music and games. A great time had by all.
One of the things that was very different was that the leadership of Emerge has grown and developed in the past year. There was a real sense of vision and purpose and leadership about them and they were key in helping to organise the weekend and decide on the content. So, a huge thanks to Emma, Russell, Charly and Lydia. Do pray for them and the rest of Emerge as they commit to seeking God and reach out to others to invite them in. Everyone on the weekend could see that there was something solid that they could become part of after the weekend and a number have indicated that they want to be active members of Emerge going forward.
Below are pictures from the weekend and a video of how people enjoyed the weekend.
